I set out to capture a few photos of the thousands of Northern Gannets currently nesting at the Cape St. Mary’s Bird Sanctuary. How hard could it be. As it turns out the fact that there are thousands of birds just makes photographing these creatures more difficult. It’s almost impossible to maintain focus, the birds continuously change direction and accelerate away, the lighting almost makes it impossible to get a fast enough shutter speed at the aperture you need. What a great experience.
